Deacon Robert L. Witherspoon, Sr. was born in Winston Salem, NC on April 18, 1930 to Rev. Melvin and Josephine Witherspoon.  He departed this life on Sunday, November 12, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center.

As a lifelong resident of the city, he attended Atkins High School and retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company after 30 years of service.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Jessie Witherspoon; two sons, James Witherspoon  and Bobby Witherspoon; two daughters, Benita and Beverly Witherspoon; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; devoted nephew and niece, Charles and Emma Everette; Godson, Greg Rush; loving cousins, and a host of close friends.

Services will be held at 12noon Saturday, November 18, 2017 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 950 File St. W-S, NC.  Entombment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Saturday at the Church.
