Mr. Robert James Durr of Kernersville, NC passed away June 6, 2023 after an extended illness. He was born on January 29, 1939 in McRae, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Pauline Banner Durr; and his wife of 42 years, Helen M. Durr.
Robert held many jobs over his lifetime, from pizza maker to screen door installer to amateur boxer. He retired from Carolina Aluminum Products previously located in Greensboro, NC. Robert's favorite job, and the one that gave him the most joy was school bus driver for the Forsyth County school system.
Robert was an excellent cook. Some of his favorite dishes, which he loved to prepare, were fried fish, collard greens and homemade cornbread. He also enjoyed gardening and tending to his lawn. He was an avid sports fan, with Mohammad Ali being his all-time favorite athlete. In later years, Robert became a Golden State Warriors fan and looked forward to watching them play each year.
Robert is survived by his children, Christopher Davido (Wendy deceased), Lisa Davido of Fort Worth TX, Robynne Durr-Gwyn (Torre) of Kennesaw, GA, Phillip Durr (Shiron) of Alpharetta, GA, Stephanie and Yvette Lewis and Tony Dawkins; grandchildren, Jaslynn Gwyn, Bria Durr, Myia Durr, Trenton Gwyn, Alanna Clarke, and Bryant King; nephew, Timothy Banner (who was like a son); nieces, Karen and Cindy Durr; nephew, Morgan Durr; and a host of other family members and friends.
Memorial services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, June 24, 2023 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel.
