Robert Cross, Sr. was born December 2, 1941 to Gladys Carpenter and John Cross. He departed this life on March 20, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center.

He was a retired factory worker, working for RJ Reynolds and Johnson Controls. Most recently he worked for United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Juanita Cross; and two brothers, Yates John Cross and Edward Lee Cross.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Gwendolyn Dixon Cross of the home; eight children, Carolyn Cross, Jacqueline Speas, and Tonja Brooks all of the city, Elizabeth Watlington of Chicago, IL, Robert (Calyssa) Cross, Jr. of Charlotte, NC, Otis Dixon, Christopher (Martica) Dixon of the city, and Daryl Brooks of Washington, DC; 20 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Bradley of Upper Marlboro, MD; four sisters-in-law, Lena Cross of Washington, DC, Mable Cross of Atlanta, GA, Princetta (Michael) Jackson of Boston, MA, and Martha Cross of the city; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Thursday, March 27, 2014 at United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Prince Raney Rivers officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11am until 12noon on Thursday at the Church.
