Obituary

Robert Levon Adamson, 68, of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was born on November 11, 1957, in Ravenna, Ohio, to Hildred Levon Adamson and Dera Oliver Adamson. From the moment he was born, Robert brought joy, strength, and a quiet determination that would follow him throughout his life. On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, Rob heard the Master calling and peacefully answered. Now another heavenly choir position has been filled.

Rob attended Warren Western Reserve High School in Warren, Ohio, before proudly serving his country in the United States Army. In 1985, he began working with Warren City Sanitation, later moving on to Packard Electric, where he retired in 2007. After relocating to Winston-Salem, he continued working at Johnson Controls until his second retirement. Ambition was at the core of who Rob was—he always aimed high, worked hard, and inspired everyone around him to believe in themselves and strive for greatness.

In 1975, Robert joined the International Funk band, starting as the MC announcer and hype man before finding his voice as a singer alongside his lifelong friends George Ervin and Fred Moore. Their talent carried them on tour with New Birth, Rufus Thomas, and General Crook, and they were blessed with the opportunity to open for legendary artists such as The O'Jays and Chaka Khan.

On February 11, 1989, Rob married the love of his life, Jennifer Rucker Adamson. As a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he was deeply committed to his family. He woke up every day with purpose, working hard to take care of those he loved. A true hustler in the most admirable sense, he was honest, dependable, and always willing to give the shirt off his back. With a calm spirit and effortless charm, he was known as a "Big Rob" to everyone who knew him.

Rob was a very active father and grandfather, supporting his family in every way he could. He loved music—especially International Funk—and filled his home with songs, laughter, and memories. Whether helping where he could, doing whatever his children asked, or simply offering comfort, Rob's love was steady and unconditional.

Rob leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Jennifer; his son, Robert Levon (Kira Howell) Rucker; and his two daughters, Raven LaMae Mitchell and Rae'Shell Lynette Adamson, all of Winston-Salem. He is also survived by his siblings, Julius E. Adamson of Columbus, Ohio, Bryan L. (Benjamin Page) Adamson of Cleveland, Ohio, DeLane E. (Monique) Jones of White Plains, Maryland, Gwendolyn (Joetta) Dugger of Austintown, Ohio, Elizabeth J. Lawrence of Newberg, New York, Terra L. (Christopher) Calloway of Pickerington, Ohio, and Michelle L. Jones of Pickerington, Ohio.

He leaves behind eight beloved grandchildren, Sonya Mitchell, Sophie Mitchell, Aniyah Stubbs, Aria Stubbs, QuinDez Stubbs Jr., Riyah Rucker, Daija Adamson, and Kalil McCullough; along with many nieces, nephews, relatives, and a wide circle of friends whose lives will forever carry the imprint of his generous and loving spirit.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Learthon B. Adamson, Herman Tiggett and Ronald L. Adamson; and one sister, Gladys J. Adamson.

Rob lived with purpose, loved with devotion, and gave with his whole heart. His legacy will forever inspire his family to remain ambitious, honest, loving, and strong—just as he was.
