Mr. Richard E. Pettus, 70, was born on July 23, 1948 in York, SC to the late Emanuel and Gladys Pettus.
Mr. Pettus went on to be with the Lord on Saturday, December 1, 2018.
He was brought up in a loving and devoted Christian family, spending his younger years between Gastonia, NC and Winston-Salem, NC.
Richard graduated from Anderson Senior High School (Class of 1966). He retired from R.J. Reynolds where he worked for 44 years. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and loved the game of golf as he was a member of the Winston-Lake Senior Golf Association. He also enjoyed football and followed the WSSU Rams. Mr. Pettus loved his family dearly, dedicating his life to giving of his time and talent to help those in need.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Pettus and Robert Pettus.
Richard is survived by his loving wife of 38 years Dorothy McRae Pettus; daughter, Kim Pettus; step-daughter, Tywanda Funches of Greensboro, NC; three grandchildren, Nyla, Jalyn, and Justin; one brother, George (Zelda) Pettus; four sisters, Loretta Pettus, Johnsie (Larry) Rivers of the city, Pam Quinn, Beverly Quinn of Gastonia, NC; mother-in-law, Mae Frances McRae; sisters-in-law, Lois Virginia McRae-Burks, Cheryl (Kenneth) Inzar, Phyllis McRae, Lynetta (Michael) Wolfe of the city, and Valeria McRae of Atlanta, GA; brothers-in-law, Vincent McRae Sr. of Rural Hall, NC, Wylie McRae of the city, Gregory (Quenna) McRae of Huntsville, AL.; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mr. Pettus also leaves to cherish his memories a devoted friend, Tony McMillan. Richard had numerous close friends who share in our grief.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Friday, December 7, 2018 at St. Philips Moravian Church with Rev. Bill McElveen officiating. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory, Walkertown, NC. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12:00noon on Friday at the Church.
