Mr. Richard Lee Miller, Sr., of Winston-Salem, NC departed on September 27, 2007. He was of the Baptist faith. He attended the local public schools, Russell's Business College, and Forsyth Technical Institute. He was a member of AARP, a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans and a lifetime member of the American Legion Local Post 220. He served as First Vice Commander, Second Vice Commander, Judge Advocate, District Commander of the 18th District and the District Vice Commander.
He served in the US Army during the Korean War and as a US Navy Sea Bee during the last battle of Okinawa, Japan during World War II. After his military career, he was employed by the Housing Authority of Winston-Salem and later retired after 20 years of service from the Forsyth County Reynolds Health Center as a Maintenance Specialist.
To morn his passing, he leaves his wife of 52 years, Mrs. Claree Joyce Miller, four daughters: Andrea Miller Thompson (Ernest), Karla Miller Connally (Perry), Alycia Miller Susie Greene (Therman), all of Winston-Salem, NC and Barbara Hagans Johnson (Ernest) of Fayetteville, NC.; three sons: Richard Lee Miller Jr., and Gordon Reid of Winston-Salem, NC and Terry Hemphill (Vicky) of California. He also leaves to cherish three granddaughters: Ernestine Thompson, Perryne Connally of Winston-Salem, NC and Hatina Hemphill Gillard of California; two grandsons: Perry Lee Connally III and Therman Lee Greene Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC and a dear god daughter, Carrie Robinson of Winston Salem.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at Russell Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 pm. Internment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held Tuesday from 12:30 pm until 1:00 pm at the Chapel.
