God in his infinite wisdom called to rest Mr. Richard Johnson, Jr. on December 29, 2013 at Forsyth Medical Center. Richard was born June 3, 1938 to the late Richard and Sally Johnson. Richard was affectionately known as "DEAC".
"DEAC" was a native of Winston-Salem and was educated in the WS/FCS public schools. Richard served his country in the United States Army, was employed at R.J. Reynolds for over 27 years, and was a diligent member of the New Hope Holiness Church in Lexington NC where he served as a dedicated deacon, member of the praise team, Sunday school teacher, and was mentor to many. He was also an avid golfer.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Richard Jackson.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Bertha M. Johnson; son, Arthur (Anita) McKay; daughters, Diane Jackson, and Regina; sister, Elizabeth Evans; brothers-in-law, Moses McKay and Charles (Brenda) McKay; sister-in-law, Katie Carpenter; devoted grandchildren, Anita (Anthony) Lee and Arthur McKay, Jr.; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Saturday, January 4, 2014 at New Hope Holiness Church, 517 Tussey St. Lexington, NC with Bishop S.T. Green officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1pm on Saturday at the Church.
