Richard's smile, energetic personality, love of fun and heart for giving will forever remain with us. Although challenging at times he was loved by many. On Thursday, August 15, 2013 Richard Bernard Byers, Jr. departed this life to enter into his resting place with the Lord. He was born in Winston-Salem, NC on April 16, 1992.
Richard was athletic and participated in many sports including T-ball, soccer, basketball, football and wrestling. He loved music and was musically inclined. Richard began to transpose music at a very young age the songs learned on his recorder at school to a small keyboard given to him by his Nana as a stocking stuffer for Christmas. He played several instruments by ear including keyboard and alto saxophone but was encouraged by his High School Music instructor to learn to read music. Richard also played the drums. He played in the band for Parkland H.S, Glenn H.S. and for Boss Drummers. He never met a stranger and quickly found his way into the hearts of those he encountered. Richard was everyone's baby, godson, brother, cousin and friend as so many ministered, mentored, encouraged, disciplined, consoled and prayed for him. He had so many aspirations to serve others and although he departed this life prematurely he frequently gave blood at the Red Cross. Even upon his death, although someone took his life, Richard sought to give life as an organ donor; for which he will be honored through the "Tree of Life" and flag ceremonies at WFU Baptist Medical Center. Richard was a member of The Uncompromising Word Fellowship Church since he was an infant.
Richard was never married and did not have any children. He leaves behind his parents, Richard Bernard Byers, Sr. and Jennifer Banks Byers who will miss him dearly; he also leaves to cherish many memories his grandmothers, Sarah Little and Cynthia Shippy; sisters and brothers, Reaiah Byers, Rychell Cannon, Demetrius Shaw, Malik Walker, Sanai Beasley, Rich Byers; two nieces, Aryonna Cannon and Korien Shaw; as well as a host of aunts, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Thursday, August 22, 2013 at The Uncompromising Word Fellowship Church, 2800 E. Sprague St. W-S, NC with Pastor Bobbie A. Jones, Sr. officiating. The family visitation will be held from 1pm until 2pm on Thursday at the Church.
