Obituary
Mr. Richard Allen Andrews, Sr. died at Silas Creek Manor Nursing Home on the morning of May 28, 2008.
He was born November 14, 1928 to Mr. D.W. Andrews, Sr. and Mrs. Jessie S. Andrews in Winston-Salem, NC.
His early education was received in the public schools of Winston-Salem and he attended Hampton Institute in Virginia.
He was a member of Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church.
Following a long residence in New York, he returned home to spend his retirement years after short periods of employment with RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company and Winston-Lake Golf Course. He was an active member of the Atkins High School Alumni Association in Winston-Salem, NC.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, James G. Andrews; and one sister, Dorothy Andrews Stephens.
Surviving are his children, Barbara Johnson of Anderson, SC, Richard A. Andrews, Jr. of Lake Park, FL, Michael (Phyllis) Andrews of White Plains, NY, Darryl Andrews of Bronx, NY, and Douglas (Mary) Robertson of Petersburg, VA; two brothers, D.W. Andrews, Jr. (Janice) and William Henry (Gwendolyn) Andrews both of Winston-Salem, NC; a devoted sister-in-law, Mary G. Andrews; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Saturday, May 31, 2008 from the Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1pm on Saturday at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Restoration Fund of Gloer Metropolitan AME Zion Church.
