Obituary

"Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy meditate on these things. The things which you have learned and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you." Philippians 4:8-9

Renee Hunter entered this earthly life on October 17, 1960 to Jerome Harcum and Jeanette Smith-Harcum. Renee was the second oldest of eight children born in Baltimore, Maryland. Renee departed this earthly life on the morning of March 5, 2018 at Forsyth Memorial Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC.

Renee attended Edmondson High School and later obtained her Licensed Practical Nursing Degree (LPN) from Mergenthaler Vocational Technical High School. She then pursued her passion of nursing at St. Joseph's Hospital in Baltimore. In 1990, Renee met the love of her life Mr. Jeffrey Hunter. The two met at the home of her best friend Cassandra Hunter, whom was also Jeffrey's cousin. The couple married in 1996 and in 2001 they made the decision to relocate to Jeffrey's hometown of Winston-Salem, NC. There, Renee continued her love of nursing at The Oaks Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in 2005, where she gained an extended family during her long weekend shifts. Renee enjoyed watching movies, reading novels, and playing scratch-offs (while sipping on an ice-cold Pepsi, of course.) Renee was a straight shooter, known for her honesty and her ability to provide loving but truthful advice. Amongst family and friends, Renee's innate selfless, nurturing and affectionate nature was shown daily, even through her hardest of times.

Renee was preceded in death by her parents, and by her brother Nathan Harcum. Left to cherish her memory is her loving and devoted husband of twenty-one years, Jeffrey Hunter. Her two daughters: Taneesha Dangerfield and Jessica Hunter; five grandchildren: Kevon Bannerman, Kaila Dangerfield, Keon Stewart, Keshawn Stewart and Morgan Hunter; six siblings: Mary Easley (Kevin), Jerry Harcum, Eric Harcum (Desiree), Bonnie McLean, Cornelius Harcum (Amy) and Anthony Harcum; and three lifelong friends: Cassandra Hunter, Nina Morton and Monica Brockman; and a special friend, Julie Brown.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Monday, March 12, 2018 at St. Andrews United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:00noon until 1:00pm on Monday at the Church.
