Mr. Rehk Imhotep, aka Derrick Hicks, 42, was born August 12, 1973 to Maxine Hicks Long and the late David Lee Stewart in Harrisburg, PA. He departed this life unexpectedly on Monday, October 12, 2015 in Detroit, MI.
He attended the local public schools and graduated from Glenn High School. He continued his education at Montreat College in Montreat, NC, attended Maryland University, and later graduated from NC Central University in Durham, NC. After graduating he became the owner of his own bookstore in Portsmouth, VA later pursuing his own contracting company where he was the owner. He started an afterschool tutoring program for kids in Norfolk, VA and here in W-S, NC he owned and coached an all-girls AAU Team.
In addition to his father Rehk was preceded in death by his brother, Jeffery Stewart; and his grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Biggers P. Hicks.
He leaves to cherish his most precious memories his mother, Maxine (Jimmy) Long; children, Ashley Hicks, Nature Imhotep, and Nazir Imhotep; brothers, Larry (Gabby) Hicks of Hampton, VA, Theophelous "Wookie" Hicks of the city, Kim Anthony of Durham, NC, Tanky and Lee Stewart of Harrisburg, PA; sisters, Daisy Hicks of the city, Lisa Stewart of Durham, NC, and Jennifer Stewart of Harrisburg, PA; a loving aunt, Evelyn Lee of Norfolk, VA; the mothers of his children, Cheryl Hicks of Portsmouth, VA and Lisa Winston of the city; very special friends in his life, Kannesha Upshaw of Detroit, MI, Tara Britton and Tasha Jarrett both of the city; a close lifetime friend, Carl Miller; his extended families, The Worthy's, The Moore's, The Jackson's, The Caldwell's, and The Harris Families; and a host of many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A family visitation will be held from 6:00pm until 8:00pm on Friday, October 23, 2015 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Shiloh Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Paul A. Lowe, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Saturday at the Church.
