Obituary

Reginald Leo Stroud, affectionately called "RED", was the beloved son of the late Mamie Stroud. He was born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on November 20, 1956. His mother made sure that he knew who God was as she brought him to church at an early age; and he joined Mount Zion Baptist Church in his youth.

Reginald lived a full life defined by service, family, and joy. He was known for his humor, confidence, and his extroverted personality.

As a teenager, he spent much of his time at the Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center playing basketball and spades and forming friendships that have lasted a lifetime.

After graduating from East Forsyth High School in 1975, Reginald enrolled at Winston-Salem State University.

He then enlisted in the United States Navy where he gave honorable service for his country and rose to the rank of E6 Cryptologic Technician (Technical) First Class. His military career took him around the world, with duty stations in Puerto Rico, Alaska, Guam, Fort Meade (Maryland), and Diego Garcia. His service record reflects multiple commendations and his honorable transfer to the Fleet Reserve in April 2000, marking a career of dedication and integrity.

Reginald was well known for his sense of humor, his love of music, and his passion for sports - especially the Raiders and the Tar Heels. He made friends everywhere he went and he left an impression on every person that he met.

He was a devoted father and grandfather. He never hesitated to go the extra mile for those he loved. He often drove from Georgia to Texas so that he could spend precious time with his children and grandchildren.

Reginald Leo Stroud passed away at his home in Augusta, Georgia on Sunday, November 30. 2025. Along with his mother, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald; his sister, Carolyn; and his "Cool Papa," Alonzo Lighty.

He was respected and loved, and he will be deeply missed by those family members who survive. Included in the number of people who will forever cherish loving memories of him are his children, Nicholas, Christopher, Regina, and MacKenzie; his grandchildren; his siblings; faithful friend, Robert Allen; and a host of extended family members and lifelong friends.
