Obituary

Mr. Reginald Leroy Scales, Sr., of 3914 Forge Drive Woodbridge, VA, beloved husband, father, and grandfather was born November 30, 1949 to the late Leroy Gamble and Bernice O. Scales. He was a longtime resident of Winston-Salem, NC and a graduate of Atkins High School Class of 1968. He was All City/County Conference, 1968 "Letter A" all three years in basketball. In 1968 during his senior year, the team won the Central 4A Conference and participated in the state tournament. He was inducted into the Atkins High School Hall of Fame in 2011. He attended Winston-Salem State University from 1968 until 1971. He and his family moved to northern Virginia in 1994 and resided there until his passing.

"Punch" worked as a restaurant manager for a major restaurant chain and later for twelve-plus years as a food service manager for a Government Contractor Team serving the United States Marines at the Quantico Marine Base in Virginia.

"Punch" went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at the Fairfax INOVA Hospital in Fairfax, VA.

"Punch" leaves to cherish his memories a devoted wife of 40 years, Lylla M. Scales of Woodbridge, VA; four sons, Reginald (Cherese) Scales, Jr. of CA, Craig (Tiffani) Love of Atlanta, GA, Kyyon (Sherese Harris) McNeil and Ryan (Tiffany Jones) Scales both of Woodbridge, VA; four daughters, Mia (Anthony) Scales Barmer of MD, Tracey (Ronald) Carroll and Tracey (Milton) Staley both of Winston-Salem, NC, and Erin (Chanel Blair) Scales of Woodbridge, VA; grandchildren, Kalil Scales, Yordan Scales, Amaris Scales, Micah Scales, Anthony Barmer, Jr., Jade Barmer, Athan Barmer, Ronald Carroll, Jr., Tryronda Carroll, Cheyenne Love, Craig Love, Jr., Cinard Floyd, Alexia McNeil, Kyyona McNeil, Destiny, Diamond, and Jaquizzy Harris, Kyyon McNeill, Jr., and Xiyon Scales; one great-grandson, Daryl Trey Smith; three brothers, Colonel Roy T. Scales, Sr. of Manassas, VA, Anthony (Claudia) Johnson of Gaithersburg, MD, and R. Lee (Sallie) Cook of Boston, MA; two sisters, Barbara Johnson of NJ and Celestine McMeans of Brooklyn, NY; four devoted cousins, Ronald E. (Janease) Jennings of Baltimore, MD, Dwight F. (Fern) Jennings of Winston-Salem, NC, J. Arness (Gloria) Jennings of Dale City, VA, and Cheryl Glenn of Washington, DC; one devoted mother-in-law, Rossie McNeil; sister-in-law, Aldrenia Gaither; brothers-in-law, Virgil McNeil, Legoston McNeil, and Barry (Andrea) McNeil; six devoted nephews, Gregory (Glenece) Atwater of MD, Roy Tye (Adrienne) Scales, Jr. of VA, Rjason Scales of VA, Amil Cook of PA, Darris Johnson of NY, and Timothy McMeans, Jr.; devoted niece, Chawntee' McNeil; nieces, Octavia Johnson of NY, Tasha McMeans of NY, and Milicent Johnson of CA; best friend, George Redd; devoted friends, Patricia (Pat) Scales Diggs of MD, Sandra H. Scales of VA, and Karen Wright of VA; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, May 12, 2016 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ronald Fisher officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 6:00pm until 7:30pm on Wednesday evening, May 11, 2016 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel.
