Reginald Kinard Oakes of 3530 Hartford Street departed this life Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Wake University Baptist Medical Center following a brief period of illness. He was born June 16, 1958 to Van Pal Oakes and Katherine Inez Oakes. Reggie spent most of his life tin the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County area.

He attended area public schools and gave more than twenty years of service to Sara Lee Hosiery before his career change led him to Wake Forest University. Reggie's special interest included automotive repair, NASCAR, and helping others. He was a devout member of Mt. Nebo Holiness Church, 205 West 25th Street. He served as a sound technician, van driver, and sexton.

Waiting for Reggie in heaven is his beloved mother Katherine Oakes.

Left on earth to cherish his memories is his wife, Angela D. Oakes; daughter, Antionette "Hope" Sheppard; son, Reginald "Lil" Reggie" Oakes, Jr.; father Van Pal Oakes; mother-in-law-, Elder Minnie Worthy; father-in-law, the Rev. Willie Frank Sheppard, Sr.; eight brothers, Van (Aliesha) Oakes, Donald (Elaine) Oakes, the Rev. Timothy (Lisa) Oakes, Randy (Teretha) Oakes, Frederick Oakes, Jerry (Vernita) Oakes, Charles Oakes, and Vance (Lajune) Henry; four sisters, Charlene (Jesse) Butler, Sandra (Craymon) Garner, Karen (Rex) Brown, and Peggy (Lenwood) Golden; two brothers-in-law, Willie Frank Sheppard, Jr. and Kenneth (Alicia) Sheppard; his devoted church family and ha host of extended family and friends.

Homegoing service will be held at 1:00 pm , Friday, April 4, 2008 at New Light Missionary Baptist Church, with the Rev. C.L. Johnson of Mount Nebo Holiness Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be held from 12 Noon until 1:00 pm Friday at the church.
