Sgt. Rebecca Olivia Stokes Hopkins (Ret.) U.S. Army, of 908 Mar Don Hills Circle was born April 22, 1951 in Winston-Salem, NC to Mae Bell Stokes and the late Horace Stokes. She passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at her home.
She was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church where she served on the Usher Board. She attended the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools and graduated from Paisley High School as well as Rutledge College where she received an associate's degree. She was formerly employed at Vista Printing Company and North Carolina Baptist Hospital where she worked in the X-Ray Film Department.
Sgt. Hopkins entered the United States Army in 1977 where she received several decorations, medals and badges including a marksman badge with M16 rifle. She served her country and was honorably discharged after 9+ years of service. She was a member of the Elizabeth Chapter 310 Order of the Eastern Star (OES).
She was preceded in death by her father, Horace Stokes; uncle, Ervin "Jack" Caldwell, Jr.; nephew, Edward Scott; great-nieces, QuaShawn Stokes, Shi-Niece Scott; and great-nephew, Rashad Scott.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Decorace Ryan Hopkins and her mother, Mae Bell Stokes both of the home; her daughter, Porcial (Robert) Wilson of Winston-Salem, NC; two sisters, Sylvia Hinton of Apex, NC and Loretta Stokes of Winston-Salem, NC; two brothers, Horace Stokes, Jr. and Leonarda Shore both of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at Shiloh Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Paul A. Lowe, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12noon until 1pm on Wednesday at the Church.
The procession will assemble and leave from the home of her sister, Loretta Stokes at 1113 Rundell Street Winston-Salem, NC 27105 enroute to the church.
