Mr. Raymond Crowder of 1140 Rich Ave. died Friday, September 14, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born February 19, 1929 to the late Leroy Knight Crowder and Lottie Thaxton Crowder. He was a life-long member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and the Laymen's League. He was educated at the 14th Street Elementary School and Atkins High School in Winston-Salem, NC before obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree from West Virginia State College in Institute, WV. His tour of duty prior to entering college was in the US Army. He retired from the US Postal Service after serving many years.
William was the loving brother of Willie, Eugene, and Herbert; and the brother-in-law of Edward Lewis whom are all deceased.
Survivors include his soul mate for life, his wife of 59 years, Lena T. Crowder; a devoted daughter, Rayonette Janease Crowder who was also his loving caregiver; two sisters-in-law, Flonnie T. Anderson (Rudy) and Jeannette T. Lewis; three nephews, Albert R. Anderson, Jr., Roscoe Mica Anderson, and Edward Ashley Lewis; one niece, Deirdre Y. Anderson; special cousins, Chetney Brown and Clifton Brown (Delores) and their son and daughter, Alexander and Ashley of Freehold, NJ; four God-daughters, Lowlitta, Aminah, Donna, and Katrice; one God-granddaughter, Lashonda; one God-son, Eric Johnson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1pm Saturday, September 22, 2012 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Serenus T. Churn, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1pm on Saturday at the Church.
