Quantaya Kobe Young a native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina was born to LaTonya Young and Kevin Farrell on October 16, 1998.
"Kobe" as he was affectionately called was educated in the Winston-Salem Forsyth County School System. During his academic career he was a participant in various programs and a recipient of several awards/honors. Namely, Kobe was a Crosby Scholar, a National Honors Society Meteorologist, and previous School News Anchor. He was twice named the Athlete of the Year, received the NCAA Leadership Award as well as an award from the Josh Howard Foundation. Kobe participated in Soccer, ran track, and set the All County 4x1 record for his grade level at the time. He was a proud Mustang, graduate of Parkland High School where he was voted 2017 Homecoming King.
Having received a full athletic scholarship Kobe attended Towson University in Baltimore, Maryland. He was a graduating senior majoring in Healthcare Management and a former member of the Towson Tigers Football Program. Kobe was a contributing member of the Towson family, in that, he served in leadership as a Towson Ambassador. This allowed Kobe to coordinate university tours to recruit prospective students.
To know Kobe is to smile because his smile was indeed contagious. He had a charismatic and inviting presence and often offered something funny, complimentary, or supportive to those in his company. Kobe spent his leisure time with friends and gathering with his family to compete in "made up" games, play the dozens and eat and eat some more. He just enjoyed having a good time and seeing the needs of others met.
Preceding Kobe in transition were his maternal grandfather, Jackie Rhodes; and paternal grandmother, Glenda Farrell.
Kobe leaves to fondly cherish his life and memory; his parents, LaTonya Young and Kevin (Leslie) Farrell; his 6 siblings, Torez Young, Paige Gary, Charles McClennahan and Christy McClennahan all of Winston-Salem, NC, Haley Ratliff and Kevon Farrell of Miami, FL; and maternal grandmother, Lillie Mae Young of Winston-Salem, NC. Further remembering his love and kindness are his two aunts, Angela Young and Nakia Young; two uncles, James "Chris" Young and Rudy Samuels all of Winston-Salem, NC; several cousins, Antionette Young, Paris Harris, Nadia Harris, Ronald Young , James "CJ" Young, Asia Young, Destiny Harris, Christiana Young, Skylar Young, and Layton Young all of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of other extended family and loving family friends.
The life of Quantaya Kobe Young has touched each of us in some positive way. So, say not in grief Kobe is gone but in thankfulness he was here. ~Hebrew Proverb.
