Mrs. Pollye Graves Bailey, daughter of Goley Graves and Gertrude Graves, was born July 21, 1935 in Mebane, NC. She departed this earthly life on Monday, January 8, 2024.
Pollye attended the local public schools in Graham, NC and graduated from Graham High School. She attended Kate Bitting School of Nursing, Winston-Salem, NC, and later became a student at Winston-Salem State University where she received her BS degree in Education. Pollye taught for several years and retired from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System.
She was a member of Zion Memorial Missionary Baptist Church, the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., Rho Zeta Chapter and served as President from 2000-2002.
Pollye was predeceased by her parents and siblings; her husband, Beaufort Bailey; and sons, Jan Bailey and Jay Bailey; six sisters, Plantiff Williamson (J.C.), Gertrude Morgan (P.A.), Jeune Paylor (Floyd), Montese Packenhorn (Francis), Armdella Graves; three brothers, Dempsey Graves (Elnora), Cletus Graves (Mary) and Harold Graves (Sylvia).
She leaves to cherish many dear and precious memories, her daughter, Dr. L'Tanya Joy Bailey; sons, Eugene Orell Bailey, Goley Jock Bailey (Beverly), Reverend Dr. Nikita Joel Bailey (Valerie); ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many dear friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30pm Friday, January 12, 2024 at Zion Memorial Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Bailey Family Cemetery, Walnut Cove, NC. The family visitation will be held from 12:00noon until 12:30pm on Friday at the Church.
