Obituary

Mother Peggy A. Grooms rejoiced her way into eternity on Sunday, May 18, 2025. She departed at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Mother Grooms was born in Winston-Salem, NC, November 11, 1945 to Catherine and Elsworth Williams, Sr.

Mother Grooms was preceded in death by her parents, Cathrine and Elsworth Williams, Sr.; her husband, Stephen Grooms; two grandsons, LaMario Clemmons and JaRavion Clemmons; three brothers, James Williams, John Walter Williams, and Elsworth Williams, Jr.; three sisters, Shirley Guess, Lessie Williams, and Marilyn Page.

She leaves to cherish her memories 9 children: Pastor Sammie (LaWanda) Clemmons, Jr., Sandra A. Bryan, Cynthia (Matthew) Williams, Pamela (Timothy) Reed, Angela Wiley, Monica (Averil) Moore, Deborah (Luther) Tensley, Sonya (Donald) Mitchell, and LaTisha (Moctar) Yaye'; 2 god-daughters, Alicia (Michael) Clinton and Tarsha (Vernard) Hairston; 4 Brothers, Melvin Williams, Nathaniel (Vera) Williams, Fred Lee Williams, and Larry (Joyce) Williams; 1 sister, Theresa Brown; 48 grandchildren; 50 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Friday, May 23, 2025 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Saturday, May 24, 2025 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Sammie Lee Clemmons, Jr. officiating.  Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Saturday at the Chapel.
