Obituary

Pauline Elizabeth Jackson was born on November 25, 1922 to the late Herman and Maude Jackson.

She departed this life on November 12, 2012 after an extended illness.

Because of her love and concern for humanity, she gained the love and respect of many people. Pauline grew up in Winston-Salem Heights Community.

She graduated from Atkins High School and earned her BA degree in Education from Winston-Salem State University, where she was a charter member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and was recognized for 50 plus years of service to the organization.

She was a member of Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church for more than 76 years. She served faithfully in several positions of leadership, such as the Church Annual Conference Delegate for many years. She served as President of the Church's Steward Board and was appointed Chairperson of the Life Members of the Women's Home and Overseas Missionary Society. She sang with the Cathedral Choir, taught Vacation Bible School, and loved to sing with the Seven Last Words Choir. She also ministered to the sick as a volunteer. She was a former music teacher that directed the Youth Choir at Goler, sang with the Retired Teacher's Chorus, and was a member of the Camp Meeting Choir.

She was involved in civic affairs, as well as a life member of the NAACP; she was Chairperson of the East Ward, President of Good Neighbor Club, and member of the Forsyth Democratic Party. She conducted numerous voter registration drives at East Winston Library. She was also a member of the Dunleith Avenue Club and received a Community Service Award in March, 1997.

She retired from Nash County School System and still remained active in her professional organizations as Secretary of the Retired Teachers' Association.

She is survived by her brother, Alvin Jackson, Sr. (Coral) and his children, Alvonia Jackson (deceased), Wyvonia Attucks (Reginald), Alvin Jackson, Jr., Yvette Tolliver, Reginald Jackson (Jelaine), Gisele Jackson- Cloud, Carla McCoy (Anthony), Athlene Bitting, Raeford Oree (Cynthia) and Angela (Lee) Debman;sister, Lucy Battle (deceased); ten grandchildren; a host of nieces and nephews in Philadelphia, PA and Winston-Salem; a special adopted godson, Bernard Revel; and many, many special friends.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Phi Omega Chapter will perform rites at 6:30pm Sunday, November 18, 2012 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 12noon Monday, November 19, 2012 at Goler Metropolitan AME Zion Church with Reverend Johnny L. Ruff officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12noon on Monday at the Church.
