Patricia Ann Watson Thorpe "Pat" was born on May 12, 1948 to Charles Watson, Sr. and Ronetta Bracey Watson in Sumter, South Carolina. She departed this life on December 26, 2018 and was peacefully called home to meet her Lord and Savior.
Pat attended Sumter School District 17 and was a graduate of the 1966 class of Lincoln High School. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Speech Pathology from South Carolina State College in 1970 and completed her Master of Arts in Speech Pathology from Seton Hall University in South Orange, New Jersey. She was a former Speech Pathologist in the Winston Salem area for 15 years and a retired member of Piedmont/ US Airways/ American Airlines. As a youth, Pat was a member of Jehovah Baptist Church in Sumter, South Carolina. She has been a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for over 40 years. She served as a member of the Audiovisual Committee and was a former Vacation Bible School teacher.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Charles Watson, Jr. of Austin, Texas. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Clarence Thorpe of Winston-Salem, NC; her daughter, Jennifer Hoskins (Steve) of Winston-Salem, NC; her son, Che' McPherson (Stacy) of Asheville, NC; and her daughter, Melanie Thorpe of Winston Salem, NC; her siblings, Sandra Staton of Norman, OK, Ralph Watson (Denise) of Sumter, SC, Rodney Watson (Jaqueline) of Garland, TX, and Dwight Watson of Marshall, MN; grandchildren, Devin McPherson of Winston- Salem, NC, Deondre Thorpe of Winston Salem, NC, and Zamier Gillepsie of Atlanta, GA; her great granddaughters, Blake Scales and Ka'niyah Thorpe of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of many nieces and nephews that she adored and they will always remember their beloved Aunt Pat as the epitome of grace and elegance. She was a dedicated cousin, niece, and friend to many. She valued their lives and invested in their well-being. Her most cherished friend, Delores West (Billy) has been by her side since elementary school.
The family graciously appreciates your condolences. We know that the Lord's loving spirit will permeate your hearts and keep you comforted during this time of bereavement.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Monday, December 31, 2018 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. John Mendez officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 10:00am until 11:00am on Monday at the Church.
