Obituary

Pastor Helen Bernice Searcy Glenn, daughter of the late John Will Searcy, Sr. and Ruth Roberta Moore Searcy, was born on June 10, 1942 in Meadows, North Carolina, in a log cabin.  She was the eldest daughter of eleven children and was preceded in death by: James "Jimmy" Searcy, Willie Bruce Searcy, Edith Searcy, Sylvia Youse (Sam), Barbara Ann Searcy and Johnny Searcy.  She departed this life at Forsyth Hospital on April 22, 2019.

She was united in marriage to the late William Bernard Glenn, "Big B", on October 5, 1963 and began a family that consisted of two daughters.  Pastor Glenn was a known leader.  She was voted Miss London High in 1960, with an enviable "hook shot" as the 5 feet 3 inches tall forward of her London High Basketball Team.  She enjoyed serving her community as a volunteer and was the first African-American PTA President at Walkertown Elementary School.  She then became a Democratic Delegate during the Jim Hunt gubernatorial campaign in 1973.  She was a Girl Scout Leader, Youth Leader and led Bible Studies in her home.

In 1978, she was called into ministry after receiving the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, with the evidence of speaking in tongues, and realizing the miraculous healing power of God; her hands, twisted by the ravages of rheumatoid arthritis, were straightened and her joints were released from pain by the power of God.   She was ordained as a Pastor by the CME Church and remained so until the Lord instructed her to begin, and later construct a building to house, Hope of Glory Fellowship Church in 1983.  Pastor Glenn's ministry blessed the masses through the years as the much beloved voice of New Beginnings Broadcast and a regular contributor with the Greensboro/Winston-Salem TCT affiliate, WLXI television station.  Pastor Glenn continued to spread the gospel even from her hospital bed, just days before she went home to be with the Lord.

She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters: Angie Glenn of Winston Salem, NC; Pamela Glenn Gilmore (Louis) of Richmond, VA; one grandson, Kristopher Brandon Glenn of Winston Salem, NC; a daughter of the heart, India Davis of Winston Salem, NC; four siblings: Clara Searcy-Pilson (the late Rudy Pilson) of Martinsville, VA, Maxine Hairston (Anthony), Phyllis Searcy-Moore (Terry)of Winston Salem, NC, Mary Allison of Chester, VA; and a host of family, friends, and brothers and sisters in Christ.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Friday, April 26, 2019 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Miller, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory, Walkertown, NC. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12:00noon on Friday at the Chapel.
