On Wednesday, June 6, 2007, God sent His special angel to retrieve Parent B. Hughes to come "Home." Parent was the first born son of the late, Reverend Benjamin A. and Maude Brannon Hughes. He was born on May 28, 1918, in Kelton, S.C. Parent worked for Wake Forest University for many years until retirement. He resided in Piedmont Circle before becoming a resident at the Winston-Salem Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ressie Hughes; his brother, Curtis G. Hughes; sisters, Mary E. France, Christine Powell and Arena Smith. He is survived by a sister, Blanch Bailey of Clairton, Pa.; and a brother, William M. Hughes, formerly of Winston-Salem and now residing in Fort Washington, Md.; a loving and caring niece, Shirley Jordan; and a host of other loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and extended family. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12, from the Canaan Baptist Church with Pastor Ronald Speas officiating. Interment will follow in the Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be from 1:30 to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12, at the church.(
