Obituary

Oscar Charles Pilson Sr., born in Henry County, Virginia, was the son of Reverend Alfred Pilson and Olivia Johnson Pilson. He was married to Eleanor Coleman Pilson, who survives him.

In addition to his wife, Oscar is survived by two children: Oscar Charles Pilson II (Catherine) and Melanie Pilson; two sisters: Gloria Pilson of Bassett, VA, and Joan Pilson of Rocky Mount, VA; two brothers: Rev. Dr. Harry Pilson (Olivia) of Fredericksburg, VA, and Nathan Pilson of Bassett, VA; and a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister: Mattie Theresa Bullard, and two brothers: John Alfred Pilson (Catherine) and Larry Wayne Pilson (Lisa).

Rev. Oscar Pilson was the Pastor at Saint Paul United Methodist Church in Kernersville, NC, from 2012 to July 2024.

A proud graduate of Winston-Salem State University, Class of '74, he served in the United States Air Force, received a degree in Data Processing Technology from DeKalb College in Atlanta, Georgia, and completed the African Methodist Episcopal Church Institute training.

Rev. Oscar C. Pilson was ordained as an Elder in the African Methodist Episcopal Church in 1992. He served as Associate Minister at Saint Philip AME Church in Atlanta, GA, where he was involved in several ministries. He was also an assistant pastor at the Saint Paul United Methodist Church in Winston-Salem, NC, where he was active in youth ministry, Christian Education, United Methodist Men, the executive leadership team, and the Chairman of the Board of Trustees. He served as Associate Pastor and Interim Pastor at Saint James AME Church in Winston-Salem, NC.

Oscar's career in education included teaching at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, serving as an adjunct professor at Gwinnett Technical Community College, and working as a Coordinator and Instructor for Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools.

His professional career was highlighted by his role as the Director of Management Information Systems for the Housing Authority of the City of Winston-Salem, from which he retired after many years of dedicated service. His retirement marked the culmination of his substantial contributions to public service and education.

In addition to his professional and ministerial work, Oscar was actively involved in civic organizations such as Samaritan's Ministries, Yokefellow Prison Ministries, and the Forsyth County Jail and Ministry Board. He was also a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Tuesday, August 27, 2024 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, August 28, 2024 at Main Street United Methodist Church, 306 S. Main Street, Kernersville, NC 27284. The family visitation will be held from 1:00pm until 2:00pm on Wednesday at the Church.

Interment will be held at 11:00am Friday, August 30, 2024 in Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC 28144.
