Mrs. Ophelia Hilton Roberson's journey began April 19, 1919 in Clarendon County, Manning, SC to Evelyn Dukes Hilton and Johnny Hilton.
Ophelia, affectionately known as "Sister" attended the public schools of Clarendon County, Manning, SC. There she began her entrepreneur interests and she was always learning how to do something different to enhance her life.
At an early age she accepted Christ as her personal savior and joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Manning, SC. After moving to Winston-Salem, NC she continued her love of sharing God's Word by joining New Bethel Baptist Church where she remained an active and dedicated member throughout her journey.
Here in Winston-Salem she also met and married Willie "Son" Roberson, the love of her life. Mr. Roberson was a renowned businessman and the two shared a love for entrepreneurship. They were bail bondsmen and owners of a general store. Ophelia also was involved in Real Estate that provided services for several families. She was a tireless worker who greeted everyone with a great smile and charming personality.
Ophelia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Ella Shuler and Lila Starks; and four brothers, Harry, Pickney, Moise, and James Hilton.
Left to cherish fond memories are her loving daughter, Carolyn Haynesworth of Detroit, MI; two step-daughters, Kanzenner Wilks and Annette (Guary) Connelly of Winston-Salem, NC; one brother, Freddie Hilton of Summerton, SC; a special niece, Barbara Dixon of Winston-Salem, NC; three nieces, Thelma James, Gracie Haynesworth of Manning, SC and Mary (Isiah) Briggs of Columbia, SC; dedicated friends, Simmie Love, Romaine (Charles) Eaton and Jonathon Wilson of Winston-Salem, NC; two grandchildren, Shawn Ragin and Iesha Haynesworth of Detroit, MI; five step-grandchildren; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
On Saturday, October 18, 2008, Ophelia "Sister" Hilton Roberson left her earthly home to meet with her Lord and Savior. A beautiful, sweet love and life has come to the end of her journey!
On Thursday, October 23, 2008 at 6:30pm the Pastor will meet with the family at the home, 200 Graham Avenue; friends are welcome to visit. Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Friday, October 24, 2008 from the New Bethel Baptist Church, 1016 N. Trade Street, Winston-Salem, NC with Reverend Dr. Kendall D. Jones, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11am until 12 Noon on Friday at the Church.
