Ollie Patricia Sadler was called to eternal rest on the morning of November 11, 2024. Her journey through life ended in the comfort of divine peace, leaving a legacy of unparalleled compassion, integrity, and dedication.
Ollie Patricia was predeceased by her parents, Mildred Robinson and Lee Hinson; and two sisters, Lois Lewis and Mary Lee Cunningham.
Born in Winston-Salem, NC, as the youngest of five siblings, "Little Ollie" blossomed in the nurturing environment of Happy Hills Gardens. Her academic pursuits led her from Anderson High School to Winston-Salem State University, and she later excelled at Hunter College, earning her degree in Sociology Magna Cum Laude. Her education continued at Pace University with training in Supervisory Management, paving the way for an exemplary career dedicated to community service.
Ollie Patricia's heart found its match in New York City where she met and married her husband of 47 years, Cornelius Sadler, with whom she raised two loving children, Danita and Dereck, in Riverdale, New York.
A pioneer and visionary, Ollie Patricia's professional career reflected her altruistic spirit, from her leadership as the Director of the Yonkers Community Action Program (YCAP) Youth Development Center and Chief Executive Director of the Yonkers Chapter YWCA where over two decades, she implemented groundbreaking programs aiding the underprivileged and championed initiatives for the broader community through her involvement in city and statewide organization committees.
Retiring in 2001, Ollie Patricia returned to her beloved hometown of Winston Salem, immersing herself in social justice and community empowerment projects with the Winston Salem Urban League. Her role as Public Relations Director was marked by significant contributions. Her advocacy extended globally, notably through her efforts to provide clean water to African communities.
She was a dedicated and active member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, where for twenty- three years she led social outreach initiatives, supporting voter registration drives and championing civil rights, among working on several committees.
Some of her most impactful and meaningful recognitions include being named "Woman Of The Year" by the Westchester County Black Police Officers Association; Chronicle Community Service Award, National Council Of Negro Women Corporate Award, Triad Cultural Arts Outstanding Service Award, among other accolades.
Over the years she joined a number of distinguished organizations including Westchester County Links, Inc. Yonkers Chapter Rotary Club, National Black Women's Political Caucus, and Anderson High Alumni. Her personal joys were deeply tied to her family, cherishing moments with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will remember her as a pillar of strength and boundless love.
Ollie Patricia Sadler leaves behind a community grateful for her service and a family who adored her deeply, including her husband, Cornelius Sadler; children, Danita Howard (Ted Howard), Dereck Sadler (Terhas Sadler), and Duane Sadler; her beloved grandchildren, Dereck Jr., Theodore, Barry, Jabari, Syrus, Zen, and Ashley; great-grandchildren, Saniyah, Damari, Rahmir, and Gianna; two brothers; Jerry Hinson and James Lee Hinson; endearing nieces, nephews, and great extended family members and friends.
We honor a life splendidly lived and a heart generously loved. Her inspiring spirit will forever light the paths of those she touched.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Thursday, November 21, 2024 at Russell Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Friday, November 22, 2024 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Reverend Herbert Miller officiating. The family visitation will be held from 12noon until 1:00pm Friday at the Church. Interment will be held at 2:00pm Tuesday, November 26, 2024 in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC.
