Ober James Stockling passed away peacefully at Novant Health Center in W-S, NC on Tuesday, February 11, 2014, to be with his heavenly family. He was born on August 23, 1932 in Dooly County, GA to the late Isham Stockling and Leola Brown Butts.

He attended the Dooly County School System before moving to Elizabeth NJ, where he worked alongside his father. Later he joined the US Army during the Korean Conflict earning the rank of Sergeant. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he finished his military career as a National Guard Reservist. He retired from Sara Lee Graphics, Inc. in 1993. Ober was an active member of Goler Metropolitan A.M.E Zion Church where he took great pride in singing in the Men's Choir.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister Juanita Butts; and his loving wife of thirty years, Eleanor Faye Boyd Stockling.

He is lovingly remembered by his eight children, Alan Wade Stokling, James Myron Stokling, Sonja Shavers, Damita Olorunfemi, Benita Stokling Davis, Kimberly Netter, Catherine Netter and Kia Netter; his sister, Ola Mae Reliford; his grand and great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

Ober will be remembered for his easy-going spirit, his beautiful baritone voice, his love for his family and his commendable work ethic. Ober took pride in doing his very best in all of his endeavors whether military, employment, or family. He will be deeply missed by those who had the pleasure of calling him Daddy, Friend, or "Mr. O".

A service of remembrance will be held at 12noon Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery with military honors. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Tuesday at the Chapel.
