Norma Justine Grant, passed away early Sunday morning, June10, 2012, at home surrounded by family. Norma was born Norma White on January 1, 1940, to Charles and Daisy White in Pittsburgh, PA. She was one of seven daughters: older sisters Pearl, Dorothy, Inez and Janie, and younger sisters Rita and Judy. She received her formal education in Pittsburgh, and married Alvin S. Grant in September, 1957. She was employed at USAIR in 1967, moving from Pittsburgh to North Carolina in 1989. Upon her retirement from the airline in 1998, Norma worked with BB&T until she retired for good in 2007.
She joined Emmanuel Baptist Church and was dedicated to her church family and participated in numerous committees such as the Missionary Circle, Change organization, and the Evangelism Ministry, among others. She was also a member of a number of social clubs, namely The Twilighters in Pittsburgh, and Friends of Winston-Salem.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Daisy; her honey, Alvin; her sisters, Pearl Scott, Inez Griffin, and Janie Wilson; and many others who were precious to her, including great-grandson Marquis White.
Norma is survived by her daughters, Sylvia and Stephanie; her spiritual daughters, Laghretta and Dara; her grandchildren, Bennett, Bayleigh, Alvie Justine, Nicole, Ryan, Ramon, Nykia, Melvin and Melek; and four week old great-granddaughter, Nauliya; she also leaves to celebrate her life sisters, Dorothy White, Rita Khan and Judy Titus; her beloved sister-in-law, Genevieve Lee; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and treasured friends.
A joyous memorial celebration will be held at 12noon Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1075 Shalimar Drive, W-S, NC with Rev. Dr. John Mendez officiating. The family visitation will be held from 11:30am until 12noon on Saturday at the Church. Norma's remains will be returned to her hometown of Pittsburgh to be interred at Allegheny Cemetery with Alvin.
