Mrs. Nora Elizabeth Holloway Scales, 74 passed away in her home on January 26, 2010. She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John and Mollie Holloway, Sr. Nora was born in Goldsboro, NC and was a retired first grade teacher from the WS/FC Public School System. She was also a former queen in the Kimberly Park Alumni Chapter of WSSU.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, John Holloway, Jr.; her sisters, Catherine Richardson, Bertha Powell, and Johnnie Bass; and her granddaughter, Catherine Elizabeth Howell.
Survivors include her daughter, Mitzi Scales Howell (Robert, Sr.) of Winston-Salem, NC; one sister, Josephine Cooper of New York, NY; grandchildren, Andrea Marie Scales and Robert A. Howell, Jr.; great-grandson, Jeremiah L. Scales; her mother-in-law, Lois Scales Hilliard of Winston-Salem, NC; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and her former husband, James J. Scales.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 pm Monday, February 1, 2010 at Shiloh Baptist Church, 916 E.12th Street with Reverend Dr. Paul A. Lowe, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from Noon until 12:30pm on Monday at the Church.
The family will be receiving family and friends at the home of the Howell's at 4132 Tise Avenue, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
