Our beloved, Nina VeRay Winfield Booker Walker, was born February 6, 1967, in Hempstead L.I. New York to Willette G. Winfield and David Miles. Nina's beautiful spirit touched every person she encountered. Nina took pride in her sons, fiercely loved her family, and was the best Meme to Jordyn. She was always available to support her loved ones. Her spirit would light up any room and her laughter were infectious. She never met a stranger and was an avid San Francisco 49ers fan.

Nina fought and survived breast cancer with grace. That experience propelled her into advocacy with the United Way and inspired her to support breast cancer patients in various ways.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Catherine Raleigh Cason; uncle, Alvonzel D. Cason; and her aunt, Janie G Thompson.

Nina attended the public schools of Forsyth County and graduated from R.J Reynolds High School in 1985. She then continued her education at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University, where she obtained her bachelor's degree in business administration in 1989. She began her service in 1997 in the Revenue Cycle Department. Nina was employed with Wake Forest Baptist Hospital for twenty-seven years. She started as an assistant manager in Customer Service and Billing Department, before transferring to the Financial Counseling Department. In 2017, Nina was chosen by the Hospital Leadership Team to start a new program for the Comprehensive Cancer Center. Nina launched and designed this program from the ground up by herself for 6 months before another teammate joined her. The program is known as the "Medication Co-Pay Assistance Program" and is now a department within the hospital with several staffed employees. This program helps cancer patients offset the cost of their medical care expenses and chemotherapy treatments. She became a strong advocate for other cancer patients, knowing how costly and life changing the journey could be. Because of her dedication, compassion and experience, this program has helped thousands of cancer patients and will continue to assist patients for many years to come. Additionally, Nina achieved the designation of greenbelt in six sigma which also showcases her hard work and determination. She was a member of New Bethel Church and sang on the choir.

Nina is survived by her husband, Stephon Walker; her two sons, Jonathan Booker and Justin Walker of Belews Creek, NC; her daughter, Stepvoni (Matt) Walker Lowery of High Point, NC; her grandchildren, Jordyn Booker, Iheem, Izryn, and Ijypt Lowery; her parents, Willette G. Winfield and David Miles; her sister, Tanya W. (James) Jackson of Walkertown, NC;  half-sisters, Catherine Miles of Hempstead, NY, Linda Miles of Charlotte, NC, Deborah Miles of Howard Bel-Air, MD, Yolanda Miles of Greenville, NC, and Barbra Miles of Amityville, NY; nephews, Jamile Jackson of Charlotte, NC and Jarard Jackson of Walkertown, NC; uncles, Monta Cason and James Otis (Frobie) Gray both of Winston-Salem, NC; great-nieces and nephews, Jian, Jace, and Jala Webster-Jackson; and a host of cousins and friends.

Nina was beautiful inside and out. She prioritized joy and found beauty in all things. She touched many lives and helped everyone she could. Her kindness and compassion made an impact on many lives. She will be forever missed. Until we meet again "Nina Pina".

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 4:00pm Sunday, July 14, 2024 at Russell Funeral Home.  A family visitation will be held from 4:00pm until 5:00pm Sunday, July 14, 2024 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Monday, July 15, 2024 at New Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Kendall Jones, Sr. officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. A family visitation will be held from 12:00noon until 1:00pm on Monday at the Church.
