Mrs. Nettie Margaret Johnson Dunn was born in Franklin County, NC to the late Sanford and Bettie Johnson, November 2, 1933. She departed this life December 31, 2012 with her daughters by her side.
She was educated in the Franklin County Public Schools and graduated from Gethsemane High School in Bunn, NC, graduating in 1953. She earned the Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Winston-Salem Teachers College (TC), and celebrated her fifty-year reunion in 2007. She was employed as an elementary school teacher at Youngsville Elementary School (NC) and Halifax County (VA) Elementary School. She retired after 35 years in the education profession.
She professed Christ at an early age and united with New Liberty Baptist Church in Louisburg, NC. Later in life she united with County Line Baptist Church in Vernon Hill, VA. She was a member of County Line for over forty years where she served on the senior choir, the 7am Prayer and Praise Ministry, Pastor's Aid Committee, Bible Study, the Silver Trotters, and was the new member mentor. After moving to Winston-Salem she united with Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Sunday school.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Nurley Dunn.
Margaret is survived by her daughters, Karen (Reggie) Flynt and Donna (Karl) Claggett both of W-S, NC; grandchildren, Ashley Pierce, Charles Pierce, Jalen Claggett, and Kia Claggett; sisters, Mrs. Mamie J. (James) Jones and Dr. Elva J. (Emory) Jones; brother, Mr. Sanford (Connie) Johnson; nieces, Crystal Jones, Jay'Na Johnson and Patricia Burt; nephews, Emory Eugene Jones, II, Jamaal Johnson, and Glenn Arrington; and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 12noon Saturday, January 5, 2013 at Emmanuel Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. John Mendez officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 11am until 12noon on Saturday at the Church.
