Mrs. Nellie Pearl Pinson Transou, 95, departed this life on Friday, August 9, 2013 at Alston Brook Nursing Facility, Lexington, NC. She was born March 7, 1918 in Greenville County, SC, the second oldest child, to the late Luther Belton Pinson and Zada Pearl Coker Pinson. Nellie attended public schools in Greenville County, SC and Midway and Flat Rock Schools in Davidson County.
Nellie met and married Robert Wilford Transou on September 30, 1940. To this union were born seven children. She also became a mother to his three children from a previous marriage, Sherman "Bobby" R.L. Transou, Pearline T. Imes (Roy) of Rochester, NY, and Jimmie L. Transou, Sr. of Arcadia, NC.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Robert W. Transou; sons, Sherman "Bobby", Richard, Ray Allen, and Jerome; brothers, Paul, Howard, Carlton, James Odell, Horace and twins Estell and Postell Pinson; sisters, Letha P. Thomas, twins: Nannie P. Griffin and Annie P. Tolbert, and Viola P. Cooley; daughters-in-law, Wilma H. Transou and Nicole S. Transou; and son-in-law, Rev. Gary M. Simmons.
Nellie was a devoted and faithful member of Goodwill Baptist Church where she served the Usher Board, as a Sunday school teacher, Missionary, Hospitality Committee, Mother of the Church, and Goodwill Supersonic Seniors. She worked when and where needed until her health declined. She received an Outstanding and Faithful Service Award from the Usher Board of Goodwill Baptist Church in 1997. On March 24, 2013, she was recognized as being the oldest member of the church.
In 2004, Nellie was featured in "The Lexington Dispatch" by news writer, Rachel Leonard, as a "Woman Known for Hard Work." In 2007, Nellie and her family were recognized at The National Black Theater Festival Gala in memory of son, Jerome and his dedicated service.
Many families were graced with Nellie's domestic services including the Mocks, Foltzes, Hanes, Sides, Hargetts, Berriers, Lewis', Teals' Buckknights, Leonards, Drums, the late Dr. C.A. Kimel and Pat, Dr. & Mrs. Bansi Shah, and many others.
She leaves to cherish her memory loving and devoted daughters, Brenda T. Simmons of the home and Pearline T. Imes (Roy)Rochester, NY; sons, Jimmie L. Transou, Joseph F. Transou, and Ervin B. Transou(Carolyn) of W-S, NC and Leon K. Transou(Andrea) of Kernersville, NC; one sister, Mamie P. Dirton of Moore, SC; one brother, Thomas Pinson(Catherine)of Mauldin, SC; loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of other relatives and friends; sisters-in-law, Alice Pinson of Marquette, MI, Mary Pinson of Philadelphia, PA, Tempie T. Robinson, Elizabeth T. Henderson(Frank), and Julia T. Huggins all of Lexington, NC, Roslyn T. Thompson of W-S, NC, Margaret L. Transou of Kernersville, NC, and Yvonne "Laverne" Montgomery of Rural Hall, NC; brother-in-law, Grady Cooley of Mauldin, SC; special nieces and nephews, Loretta Pinson Simon of Midway, NC, Anika Simon of Orlando, FL, Audie V. Simon II of Cleveland OH, Hubert Transou(Ronnie) of Baltimore, MD, Barney Hart(Catherine) of Atlanta, GA, and Faye G.(Larry)Wynn of Simpsonville, SC; extended family, Ethel C. Walser, Mark Leak, Sandra and Carl Russell, Jr., John Miles, Chris and Tommy Mitchell, Kim and Walter Honeycutt, Raymond and Victoria Phelps, Rudy and Minister Jackie Hill, all the ministers and members of the Goodwill Baptist Church and the GBC Supersonic Seniors, and all of the Hege Road neighbors.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm Friday, August 16, 2013 at Goodwill Baptist Church, 541 Goodwill Road Clemmons, NC 27012 with Bishop Stephen L. Williams officiating and Bishop Stanley Transou, Pastor of Greater True Vine Ministries Thomasville, NC eulogist. Interment will follow in the Goodwill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family visitation will be held from 6pm until 8pm on Thursday, August 15, 2013 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel.
