"I could not stay another day to laugh, to love, to work, to play. Tasks left undone must stay that way. I found that peace at the close of the day."
On Sunday, March 17, 2019, Nathaniel Wilson, Sr. grew his wings and left his earthly family and home to be with his Lord and Savior. He loved his family, and they loved him back. After retiring from Reynolds Tobacco Company and later from the Winston Salem Journal, he spent his free time picking up his granddaughters from school and solving the problems of the world with his Country Club pals at McDonald's on MLK!
He was educated at Carver High School. Nathaniel grew up in Macedonia Holiness Church of God, later joining Spencer Memorial Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) under Rev. John Mack. He then became a founding member of Messiah Community Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), along with the members of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Grant Wilson and Lola Hampton Wilson and all his siblings: brothers, Lee Grant Wilson, Jr., his identical twin Joenather Wilson, James Lee Wilson; sisters, Inez Wilson Wilson, Erline Wilson Spillman, Beulah Wilson Moore; his mother-in-law, Onetta Scott Wilson; nephews Freddie Wilson and Frank Wilson, Jr.
He leaves a family filled with memories: his wife, Juanita Scott Wilson and children: daughters, Katherine N. Wilson of Winston Salem, Natitia Wilson Thornton of Mebane; one son, Nathaniel H. Wilson, Jr. of Winston Salem; grandchildren: Yasmine and Soley Wilson of Winston Salem, Maxwell Thornton of Mebane; nephews: Bobby Wilson, Kenneth Spillman, Steven Wilson, Michael Moore, and Antonio (Belva) Spillman of Winston Salem; nieces: Debra Spillman, Robin Brooks and Vanessa (Paul) Jeter of Winston Salem. His extended family includes: aunt, Ila Moore; cousins, Maxine Gwynn, Carolyn Archie and her husband Carl, who was his Uber driver and partner-in-crime; cousin Barbara Brinkley of Winston Salem; and life-long friends, Elmira Hairston of Winston Salem and Alphonso Bell of Suitland, MD; godchildren: Felecia (Terrence) Bennett-Giles of Winston Salem, Dr. Belinda (Forrest) McFeeters of Wilmington, Dr. Jabar Bennett of Evanston, IL, and a host of other extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, March 23, 2019 First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 2320 Country Club Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27104 with Rev. Frank Robinson officiating.
