Nathaniel Davis Jr., affectionately called "Bro" by family and "Mookie" by friends, peacefully passed away on Sunday, November 30, 2025. Nathaniel lived life to the fullest, whether spending years in New York collecting stories and adventures or returning to his hometown of Winston-Salem, NC, where he remained deeply connected to his roots.
Born on January 2, 1946, Nathaniel grew up in the close-knit African American community of Happy Hill Gardens, forming lifelong friendships that lasted a lifetime. A proud graduate of Anderson High School, he carried the spirit of his hometown with him wherever he went.
Nathaniel was preceded in death by his parents, Adlener Dubose Davis and Nathaniel Davis, Sr.; sisters, Gracia Claudette Davis Benton, Gwendolyn Davis Fleming, and Renita Davis Fields; and brother, Kenneth Wadell Dubose.
Nathaniel is survived by his sisters, Wilma Patricia Anderson, Veronica Davis, and Gisele Davis Stewart; his former wife, Elaine Davis; his devoted niece and caregiver, Gwendolyn Davis; his trusted friend, Angela Ethridge; and many, many other family members and friends who loved him dearly.
Nathaniel retired from the School of the Arts as a maintenance technician, taking pride in the spaces he cared for and the people he supported. Known for his love of fashion and cars, he had a super cool personality that left a lasting impression. Nathaniel's flair, humor, and unmistakable style made him unforgettable to everyone who knew him.
The family will deeply miss Nathaniel's presence, his strong opinions, and the way he proudly believed he was his mother's favorite.
