Obituary

Mrs. Naomia Spann Lone was born March 6, 1934 to David Shouse and Mary Spann in Forsyth County.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Lone Sr.; sisters, Ophelia Glenn and Helen Conner; daughter, Mattie Tiggett; and nephew, Terry Spann.

She is survived by her children, Iris Lyerly, DeLinda Anderson (Steven), Yasmine Mickle (Michael), Jennifer Spann (Leo), Cedric Spann (Patricia), Phyllis Spann, and James Lone Jr. (Tara); and a host of grandchildren, great-grands and great-great grands, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She attended Carver School 1st-12th grade and was a graduate of Winston-Salem Teachers College (WSSU) where she received her Bachelor's in Science Degree in Education. In her lifetime she worked as an educator in Newton, NC and substitute teacher in Forsyth County. She was the 1st African American to hold the position of Medical Liberian at Forsyth Hospital (Novant Health). She was a Forsyth County School bus driver on bus #191. She was also an entrepreneur, owner and operator of Naomia's Little One's Daycare and several other business ventures.

Naomia was president of The Women's Auxiliary at American Legion Post 220, an avid bowler, Cub Scout den mother, and member of the Rescue Squad on 311.

As a child Naomia attended Piney Grove Baptist Church and in her adult life she was a member and secretary at Reynolds Temple CME Church.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Russell Funeral Home.

Private funeral services will be held Friday, October 9, 2020. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
