Obituary

Our loving Mother, Ma, Grandma, Granny-Granny, Fannie, also known simply by "Roach" passed away peacefully at her residence on April 1,2023 at the age of 88.


Naomi C. Roach was born January 7, 1935 in Beards Fork, West Virginia to the late Ben Coles, Sr. & Stella Coles. She was the last living child of 11 siblings. She was preceded in death by brothers, Ben Coles, Jr., James Coles, Delbert Coles, and Theopolus Coles; and sisters, Bevielda Mitchell, Alberta Coy, Millison Hamn, Hazel Taylor, Ernestine Coles Evans and another sister who died as in infant.
Naomi attended Simmons High School in Montgomery, West Virginia and graduated in 1952. During High School, she was the proud captain of the girls' basketball team. After High School, Naomi worked at Rubber Craft for 13 years until they went out of business. She also dedicated many years of working for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in New Haven, Connecticut, where she later retired. Soon after retirement, she extended her passion for cooking and attended Culinary School in New Haven, CT. Although she loved many things, her "calling "was caring for her family which she was very proud to do. She was specifically asked to care for her cousin, Cecilia, her brother, Frank, her brother, Puddin, her brother, Buck and his wife in their final days, which she was honored to do.


Naomi was married to Robert Roach, Sr. for 10 years. During their union they had two children, a daughter, Vittoria and son, Robert, Jr. Naomi was preceded in death by her second husband of 10 years, Vernon Carpenter.


Naomi accepted Christ as her personal savior and received the Holy Ghost at age 44 in 1979 at Shekinah Glory Church under Pastor Talley in New Haven, CT. She started her spiritual journey serving as a Pastors Aide at Beulah Heights First Pentecostal Church led by Bishop Brooks (Father of Theodore Brooks) in New Haven, CT. When she moved to Winston-Salem, NC she joined Ishi Pentecostal Church led by Dr Patrick L Usher, Sr. Her calling led her to Scottsdale, AZ where she then joined Landmark Pentecostal Church led by Bishop David Abbott. She then returned to her family in Winston-Salem, NC and was a current member of Heavenview United Pentecostal Church led by Pastor Harold Linder.


Those left to celebrate her amazing life and ever-lasting memories are her daughter, Vittoria Johnson; son, Dr. Robert Roach; 5 grandchildren, Lamonica Heartley, Lachell Heartley, Quiana Gibson, Robert Roach III, and Ryan Roach;10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. Naomi was also an adoptive parent to many, to specially include Joshua Harris.

A viewing will be held from 1:00pm until 5:00pm Thursday, April 6, 2023 at Russell Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Friday, April 7, 2023 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel.  Interment will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 10:00am until 11:00am on Friday at the Chapel.
