Mrs. Naomi Doggett Morrison joined her beloved husband, Oscar C. Morrison, on December 11, 2011 after a brief illness. They were married for more than 50 years and shared many loving memories together. For over 50 years she and her husband owned and operated Morrison Studevent Funeral Home in both Lexington and Mocksville, North Carolina, providing love and support to families in their time of need.
Naomi was born in Rutherford County, North Carolina, the youngest child of William Pink Doggett and Connie Wilson Doggett. Naomi graduated from New Hope High School and received a BS in Education from Winston-Salem Teachers College. Never satisfied with the minimum education, Naomi earned a master's degree in Rural Education from North Carolina A&T State and certification as a teacher of academically gifted students.
Naomi was a charter member of Omicron Psi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. in Lexington, North Carolina. She was a faithful and devoted member of First Baptist Church and received several certificates of appreciation for her service to the church, community and the local NAACP.
She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Mrs. Leola E. Doggett Watson Graham Clinton (Robert) and Mrs. Ruth Doggett Twitty (Max); her only brother, William Doggett; and her son, William (Billy) Pink Taylor.
Naomi nurtured and lovingly cared for her family. Surviving relatives enriched by her presence include her son, David Taylor Morrison, Lexington, NC; a special daughter, Miriam Ledbetter Wagner (David Wagner, III) High Point, NC; her adored grandson, David Gerard Littlejohn (Eboni), Charlotte, NC; a special cousin, Geneva Wilson Gilchrist; dear friends, Evelyn Cabbell and Stella Baker; and a host of other treasured relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00pm Thursday, December 15, 2011 at First Baptist Church, 210 Village Dr. Lexington, NC. The family visitation will be held from 2:30pm until 3:00pm on Thursday at the Church.
