Obituary

Nancy R. McKee was born in Gaffney, South Carolina, the daughter of the late James Richardson and Rose Richardson Dawson.  She was the 14 th of 16 children born to James and Rose.

She was preceded in death by her brothers, McCree Richardson, William Richardson, Reverend Albert Richardson, Clarence Richardson, Townsend Richardson, and Robert Richardson; and her sisters, Corine Montgomery, Joesfin Green, and Altheria Reddish.

Nancy graduated from Benedict College where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education, North Carolina Central University where she received a Master Degree in Physical Education, NC A&T State University where she received a Master of Science Degree in Guidance and Counseling, and UNC-Chapel Hill where she received a Master of Science Degree in Vocational Education.

She began her teaching career as a Physical Education Teacher at W.B. Wicker School in Sanford, NC.  In 1966 she began teaching in Winston-Salem, NC as a Physical Education Teacher at Atkins High School.  She later worked as a Guidance Counselor at Southwest, Kennedy, and Paisley Middle Schools.

In 1967 she married the love of her life, Clarence McKee, Jr., the Guidance Counselor and later Assistant Principal at W.B. Wicker High School, Sanford, NC before he relocated to Winston-Salem, NC.  Upon retirement from the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, Nancy attended Forsyth Technical Community College where she received her NC Morticians License and worked for Knott's Funeral Home in Sanford, NC.  She was a member of The Order of Eastern Star Imperial Court Daughters of Isis.  Nancy was a devoted member, Senior Elder, and an interior decorator at Grace Presbyterian Church.  She also loved working with flowers in her beloved Northwood Estates.

She is survived by her loving son, Clarence "Mackie" McKee, III (wife, Karin) of Raleigh, NC; baby brother, Robert Richardson of New Haven, CT; her only living aunt, Marie Dawkins; and a host of nephews, nieces, other family members, and friends.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Grace Presbyterian Church, 3901 Carver School Road with Pastor Toure' Marshall officiating. The family visitation will be held from 12:00noon until 1:00pm on Thursday at the Church.
