Nancy Douglas Carpenter, 73, of 2705 Gilmer Ave. was born May 13, 1939 to Wiley Peoples and Corene B. Douglas in Winston-Salem, NC.

Nancy was a proud graduate of Atkins High School, Class of 1957. After high school she became a dedicated employee of Western Electric now AT&T. After 30 years of service she retired and went to enjoy her passion of traveling and being with family. She was a member of St. Peters World Outreach Center where she participated in the Cell Group until her health began to decline.

As the roads began to grow rough and hills became harder to climb in her life God gently closed her eyes on Thursday April 25, 2013 and whispered peace be thine

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers Charles D. Cason and Sylvester Douglas.

She leaves to cherish her memory her loving son, Rodney (Darlene) Carpenter; grand-daughter, Ayana Watson; two great-grandchildren, Keegan Jones and Kamaree Brown; two sisters, Vernie Shaw and Minnie Simmons; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at 12 Noon Tuesday April 30, 2013 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Joseph Lowery officiating. Entombment will follow at Piedmont Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held from 6pm until 7:30pm on Monday April 29, 2013 at the funeral home.
