Our loving mother, Myrtle Katherine Hairston Dervin was born June 27, 1932 in Friendship, North Carolina to Paul and Helen Lindsay, and faithful Godparent, Carrie Hairston. She went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 2, 2008 after a very brief illness at Wake Forest Baptist University Medical Center.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Silas C. Dervin, Sr.; and a son, Michael "Mike" Hugh Dervin.

Mrs. Dervin is survived by one son, the Rev. Silas (Gwendolyn) Dervin, Jr. of Winston -Salem, NC; two daughters, Diane Oakes and Sandra Dervin both of Winston-Salem, NC. She is survived by a sister, Josephine Smalls of Friendship, NC; an aunt, Mary Metz of Friendship, NC; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends including her devoted friends and residents of St. Peter's Heritage Place.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm Saturday, December 6, 2008 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Dr. Charles E. Gray officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. Family visitation will be held from 1:30 pm until 2 pm Saturday at the church. The family will assemble at 12 Noon at St. Peters Heritage Place, 3727 Old Lexington Rd., Winston-Salem, NC on Saturday.
