Ms. Muriel Hyocinth Armstead was born on May 14, 1923 and was called home on January 3, 2017 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.

Muriel was educated in the city of New York. She became employed at The Emerson TV & Radio Corporation where she worked for many years. Muriel then went on to work at the Department of Health and Vital Records in New York, NY.

She was a caring and giving person, but her best loves were volunteering with children, traveling, and worship. Her best trip was to Jerusalem.

Muriel was preceded in death by her father, Ceasar Armstead; mother, Lucille Armstead; and sisters Kathrine Richardson and Georgia Jordan.

She is survived by her daughter, Latisha Castle; grandson, Rashaad Armstead; three nieces, Lynn Grant, Junis Richardson, and Beverly Richardson; one nephew, James (Martha) Richardson; two great-nieces, Joy Quintero and Divina McNeill; three cousins, Claudette (James) Brewington, Sandra (Reginald) Smith, and Audrey (Chester) Holloman; a devoted caregiver, Lisa; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation services will be held from 5:00pm until 7:00pm Monday, January 9, 2017 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel.
Final burial services will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2017 in New York, NY.
