DAVIS WINSTON_SALEM, NC - Mother Geneva Douthit Davis, daughter of the late James Douthit and Mother Ellen Hopper and step-father, Deacon John Hopper, was born in Winston-Salem, NC November 29, 1936. Mother Davis departed this life on Thursday, November 20, 2008 unexpectedly at the Grand Strand Hospital in North Myrtle Beach, SC.
She was educated in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County public schools and was a graduate of Atkins High School, Class of 1957. She furthered her education at Winston-Salem Teachers College.
Mother Davis retired from Western Electric (AT&T) after 26 years as a production specialist. She was also supervisor of the Winston-Salem coliseum concession stands for 10 years. She was a member of the Bethesda TVPH Church of God, Inc. where she served faithfully in the ministry of her brother, Bishop J.W. Hopper, Sr. for nine years. She was a lifelong member of the Macedonia Worship Center.
Mother Davis served dedicatedly on the Junior Choir, Senior Choir, and the Youth Department where she served as President, Sunday School Teacher, Education and Cultural Association, and the Mothers Board where she served as secretary. She was a radio announcer for the Hour of Deliverance Broadcast. She was also a faithful supporter of the Willing Workers Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Davis, Sr.; her daughter, Janet D. Satterwhite; sister, Evangelist Ellen Louise Hubbard; and a brother, Jimmy Douthit.
She leaves to cherish her memory a son, James (Marla) Davis, Jr. of Houston, TX; two sisters, Delois Banner of Winston-Salem, NC and Dicie J. Petree of Mitchellville, MD; two brothers, Waddell (Betty) Hopper, Sr., and Bishop John (JoAnne) Hopper, Sr. of Winston-Salem, NC; a grandson, Juan Lamonte Davis; three granddaughters, Jada, Jillian, and Tavia Davis; a great-grandson, Chase Davis; a great-granddaughter, Jaelyn Brown; a son-in-law; Cornelius Satterwhite, a beloved cousin and companion, Mother Essie Mae Jackson; four devoted friends, the Reverend WanEtta Belle, Mother Mary L. Smith, Sister Sandy Swain, Mother Annie Hutson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A homegoing celebration will be held at 1pm Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Macedonia Worship Center with Apostle S.D. Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. Family visitation will be held from 12 Noon until 1 pm Tuesday at the church.
