Obituary

"Don't grieve for me, for now I am free. I'm following the path God has laid you see. I took His hand when I heard Him call, I turned my back and left it all."

On Monday, January 6, 2025 Mr. Monteria Alphonso Peoples was peacefully called home to eternal rest at his home at Stafford Place. Monteria affectionately known as "Fon" was born July 8, 1960, in Winston-Salem, NC to Deacon Charles Peoples Sr. and Deaconess Shirley Peoples of the city.

Alphonso graduated from East Forsyth High School, Class of 1978 and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Livingston University, Class of 1982. He served in the US Navy for four years. Alphonso was employed with the US Postal Services in Norfolk, VA, where he retired in 2022 with 33 years of service.

As a child he attended Union Baptist Church with his parents until he went into the Navy and on returning to Winston-Salem, he reunited with the church and attended whenever he could. Alphonso was preceded in death by his father, Deacon Charles Peoples, Sr.; one sister, Mrs. Valencia Martin; and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Betsy Ann Peoples.

He leaves to cherish wonderful memories, three sisters, Mrs. Lorraine Wilson of Winston-Salem, NC, Mrs. Ava (Mr. Timothy, Sr.) Corbett of Farmville, VA and Dr. Pamela Haith of Kernersville, NC; one brother, Mr. Charles Earl Peoples, Jr. of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church family.

Memorial services will be held at 11:30am Friday, January 17, 2025 at Union Baptist Church. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 11:30am on Friday at the Church.
