Mitzi Phelps was born in Reidsville NC May 19, 1960 to the late Joann Blackwell and Pete Hooper and transitioned on Sunday morning November 26, 2017. Mitzi moved to Winston Salem, NC at a young age and was a product of Winston Salem Public School System. Mitzi also lived in the Bronx, NY for six years and attended PS 113. Mitzi was a dedicated Certified Nurse Assistant and worked at various facilities throughout the triad area. Mitzi was also a dedicated care taker of her late mother JoAnn Blackwell.
Mitzi was a lively spirited spunky lady who enjoyed music especially the genre of jazz. Mitzi was also a sharp dresser, always kept a nice hairstyle, and "Face Beat for the Gods". Mitzi loved life and enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren.
Mitzi was preceded in death by her grandparents, Joe & Annie Fields Blackwell; mother, JoAnn Blackwell; and her aunt, Dorothy Giles.
She leaves to mourn and cherish her most precious memories two dedicated and loving children, Sharmel Hooper Harkness (Leandrus) and Tareian Phelps; two precious sisters, Gracie Smith (Terry) and Sharaketa Mccray (Joe); two loving brothers, Randall Hooper and Aundra Hooper; two loving aunts, Deloris Moyer (Daniel) and Jacqueline McNebb (Marvin); two uncles, Junius Blackwell (Clocelton) and Micheal Blackwell (Dracy); Mitzi cared deeply for her nine grandchildren, Darryl Little, Naziere Little, London Harkness, Jody Phelps, Tareian Phelps, Jr., James Little, Tyland Little, Tareiana Little, and Miracle Little; Mitzi also adored her nephew, Terrick Smith; her host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends; and Mitzi appreciated and respected her neighborhood friend, Ms. Ulah Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, December 2, 2017 at the Russell Funeral Home Chapel with Elder Trent Moyer officiating. Interment will follow in Piedmont Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:00noon until 1:00pm on Saturday at the Chapel.
