Mrs. Mildred Adrene Willis Broadous, an humble and willing servant for the Lord completed her earthly journey, August 24, 2007. She was born on September 12, 1912 in Osceola, Arkansas, the fifth child of Horace B. Willis and Linnie U. Willis Early.
Her early years were spent in Osceola, Arkansas. While attending Arkansas Baptist College, she met and married Albert B. Broadous. To their union a daughter, Marion Jean was born.
In 1934, Mildred and family established residence in Little Rock, Arkansas. She joined and was an active member of Mount Zion Baptist Church. Her services included teacher and superintendent of the Young People's Sunday school for 40 plus years; secretary-treasurer of the Ministers, Deacons and Trustee Wives Club; the Bright Star Club, and a Girl Scout Troop Leader. She was an advocate for sharing and teaching young people that scripture, obedience to and love for God should be a part of their daily lives. In doing so, they would have much joy, peace and happiness.
In 2000, she moved to Winston-Salem, NC to live with her daughter, Marion. During her membership years at St. Paul United Methodist Church, she was active in the Kathleen Williamson SET-OUT Sunday School Class.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert "AL" B. Broadous of 67 years; brothers, Plummer, Horace, Jr. and Bobby Willis; sister, Ophelia W. McCoy; son-in-law, Virgin G. Simpson.
Her memories will be cherished by her daughter, Marion B. Simpson of the home; granddaughters, Sharon M. Simpson of Southfield, MI and Valerie J. Simpson of Winston-Salem, NC; great grandchildren, Obrien, Ebonie and Alexander Walker of Winston-Salem, NC; nephew, Frank (Tyna) Fields of Oklahoma City, OK: sister-in-law, LeeOmia B. Clegg and brother-in-law, the Reverend John (Jean) Broadous of Compton, CA; many nieces, nephews and friends.
Memorial service for Mrs. Broadous will be held on Tuesday, August 28, 2007 at 11:00 AM at the St. Paul United Methodist Church with the Reverend Donald Jenkins officiating. The family visitation will be from 10:30 until 11:00 AM on Tuesday at the Church.
Final services will be held on Friday, August 31, 2007 at the Mount Zion Baptist in Little Rock AK with burial in Haven of Rest Cemetery, Little Rock, AK.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given in memory to the Building Fund of St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2400 Dellabrook Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27105.
