Mildred Whitmire departed this earthly life on July 22, 2017 after an extended illness.  She was born in Winston-Salem, NC on November 3, 1928 to the late John and Louise Coleman.  Mildred attended the local public schools and was a graduate of Atkins High School.

Over the years, Mildred was gainfully employed at Comprehensive Health Care (Reynolds Health Center), Experiment in Self-Reliance, and the Winston-Salem Housing Authority, from which she retired after more than 30 years.

Mildred Whitmire was a long-time member of Mount Zion Baptist Church and a member of Sunday School Class #6.  She was also a member of the Miriam Missionary Group and the Ladies Usher Board until her health declined.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Phyllis Coleman and Marylyn McRae; and her children, Jacqueline Cole and Billie Whitmire.

Remaining to cherish the rich memory of Mildred Whitmire are her beloved children, Gloria Whitmire, Kenneth (Gwen) Rasheed, Judith (Edward) Whitmire-Bryant, and Angelia Whitmire; son-in-law, Odis Cole; daughter-in-law, Rose Whitmire; thirteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren;  a special friend, Ethel Wilson; and extended family in Charlotte, NC.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00pm Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Serenus T. Churn, Sr. officiating.  Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 12:30pm until 1:00pm on Wednesday at the Church.
