Mildred Rebecca Alexander Smith was the daughter of the late Amy Worthy Alexander and T.R. Alexander.  Mildred was born in Charlotte, NC and moved to Winston-Salem at the age of 4.

Mildred was educated in the Forsyth County Schools-Atkins High School graduation class of 1960.  She also graduated from Kate B. Reynolds Nursing School in 1963.  She was employed by Forsyth Medical Center and retired from Westinghouse after 22 years of serving as an Occupational Health Nurse and Insurance Administrator.

Mildred joined Emmanuel Baptist Church at the age of 9.  She served on several auxiliaries including the Essie B. Lennon Missionary Circle, Sunday School Department, EBC Spiritual Choir, and was the past President of the Usher Board.

Mildred was preceded in death by her brother, James Alexander; sister, Daisy Alexander Coleman; and her nephew, Wayne Coleman.

She leaves to cherish her memory her high school sweetheart and husband of over 54 years, Deacon Hessie Smith; sister, Minnie Alexander of Winston-Salem, NC; two sisters-in-law, Rosa (Samuel) Hynes of Winston-Salem, NC and Barbara Smith of Columbia, MD; 15 Godchildren, Wayne Parker of Annapolis, MD, Monique Smith of Catonsville, MD, Kim Garrett of Atlanta, GA, Karin Smith of Waldorf, MD, Walteria Caldwell of Fate, TX, Johnathan Smith of Rochester, NY, Jennifer Calvin of San Antonio, TX, LaShanda Milner of Charlotte, NC, Chris Coleman, Maurice Coleman, Jeffrey Calvin, Dana Young, LaDonna Oglesby, Rev. Darrell Young, and Marsha Davis all of Winston-Salem, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

THERE WILL BE NO PUBLIC VIEWING. Memorial services will be held Tuesday, January 26, 2021.
