Obituary

Mrs. Mildred Friday George passed away peacefully Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center surrounded by the love of family. Affectionately known as "Mim", she lived to be 92 years old. The beloved matriarch of five generations, Mim will be remembered for her service to God and devotion to her family.

Born May 9, 1925 in Midway, North Carolina, Mim is the daughter of Clarence Friday, Sr. and Zula Clark Friday. She leaves to cherish her memory her sister, Adelaid Talbert of Midway, NC; three children, Eddie George, Jr., Patricia Gary (Ernest) and Tyrone Wayne George; four grandchildren, Anita George, Ernest Gary, Jr. (Elisa),Anthony George, and Antoinet George; six great grandchildren, Jasmine Carpenter, Jade Carpenter, Ernest Gary, III, Elijah Gary, Adrianna Thomas, and Demir Thomas; one great-great grandchild, Jurney Carpenter; special friend, Mary Carpenter; and a host of sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Mim was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eddie George, Sr.; and brothers, James Earl Friday, Sr., Jake Kelly Friday, Sr., Clarence Friday, Jr. and Clark Friday, Sr.

A graduate of Dunbar High School in Lexington, North Carolina, Mim advanced her education and pursued her passion at Lemay Beauty College in Winston-Salem, NC. Upon becoming a Licensed Beautician, she opened a beauty salon in the basement of her East Winston home. Her clientele admired her talent and quality customer service. She is also to be admired for modeling entrepreneurship in the Black community for more than sixty years.

Mim was a devoted member of United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church. She joyfully demonstrated her love for Christ as a Servant Leader in the Church Nursery. The Bible has specific promises about God's presence when children are welcomed and loved in Jesus' name. For decades, Mim prayed with, watched over and spiritually nurtured children allowing their parents to focus on worship. Though active in other areas of the church, the Nursery became her ministry. Mim will be lovingly remembered for her smile, her laugh, her ceramic creations, her pound cake, and potato salad. She will be revered for her care of and commitment to family and love of children. She will be celebrated as a good and faithful servant of God.

The family extends a special expression of gratitude to friends Ken and Renee Gary, Bobby and Bonnie Henderson, Martha Gary Brimage and Nan Chinn. We also convey our deep appreciation for the compassionate care provided by son, Wayne George and the doctors and staff of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Lastly we thank the United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church body for their kindness, support, and prayers during this difficult time.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00noon Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at United Metropolitan Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Yvette Lovett Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Gardens. The family visitation will be held from 11:00am until 12:00noon on Wednesday at the Church.
