Ms. Mildred Geneva Bowman transitioned from labor to reward on March 5, 2013 at Grace Health Center, W-S, NC. Ms. Bowman was born January 21, 1933 in Surry County, NC and was the first born of nine children to the late James Ernest Bowman and Luetta France Bowman.


She attended public schools in Patrick County, VA. She spent most of her adult life as a resident of Walkertown and W-S, NC.


In addition to being a mother, grandmother, and housewife, she worked in the retail grocery industry, RJ Reynolds Tobacco Company, Forsyth Technical & Community College, and the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Public School System from which she retired.


She was a faithful member of Oak Grove Baptist Church before becoming ill.


Immediate family members preceding Ms. Bowman in death were her parents; four brothers, James, William, Raleigh and Rex Arron Bowman.


Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Vicki Gray of W-S; grandson, Keith Totten, of Greensboro; a sister, Mary Pauline Bowman Williams (Thurmond) of Greensboro; three brothers, Nathaniel Bowman (Carolyn) and Walter Bowman of W-S, and Bobby Bowman, of Greensboro; five nieces, Dalnice Michelle Bowman, Karen Michelle Bowman Waiters (Clayton), and Tatum Brimmer of W-S, Cynthia Bowman White (Freddie) of Walnut Cove, and LaTanya Bowman of High Point; nephews, William Bowman II, Kelvin Mitchell, and Christopher Bowman of W-S and Michael Bowman (Kimberley) of Charlotte; three sisters-in-law, Betty Walker Bowman of Walkertown, Blanche Smith Bowman of Walnut Cove, and Annie Almeda Bowman of W-S; one aunt, Ms. Carrie France Hill of Stewart, VA; one great uncle Mr. Straughter France of Westfield, NC; a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends; extended family members Sarah Withers, Geneva Withers Courry and Curt Withers of Walnut Cove, NC, Rev. Lawrence (Barbara) Carvano, Ruby (Ted) Welch, and Ruth Bailey of W-S.


A Service of Triumph will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, March 9, 2013 at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Pine Hall Road, Walkertown, NC. Interment will follow in Gardens of Memory, Walkertown, NC. The family visitation with tributes will be held from 12noon until 1:00pm on Saturday at the Church.
