Obituary

Evangelist Mildred Simpson-Blackwell, affectionately known as "Bay", a devoted and loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother and friend to many, went home to be with her heavenly Father, unexpectedly Tuesday, April 21, 2009.

She attended public schools in NC and NY and continued her education at Forsyth Technical Community College where she pursued nursing. From there she attended Winston-Salem Bible College where she majored in theology.

Mrs. Blackwell toured with The Mass Choir and Voices of Faith of NC for many years. Her work took her on to Washington, DC to march for the legal holiday for Dr. Martin L King. Her Life has touched so many.

Evangelist Blackwell was preceded in death by her father Mr. Earl Simpson SR., two brothers, Jeffrey and Kenneth Simpson; and her grandson Antwaun Simpson.

She leaves to cherish her memory a loving mother Rosena G Simpson of the city; a loving husband Nathaniel Blackwell; a loving daughter, T'angala (Brent) Simpson Fuller of the city; her beloved grandchildren, Lamesha, Danika, Zikeya, Trejon and Savion Fuller of the city; loving sisters, Carrie(Cecil) Allsopp of NY, Joyce(Roosevelt)Brooks, Evangelist Rose M.( Deacon Hawather)Gist and Sandra McCollough of the city; loving brothers Jesse (Sylvia)Simpson of NO, Leonard(Donna) Simpson , Norvell(Tara)Simpson, Harry(Shelia) Simpson, Earl, Donald and Timothy Simpson all of city; Loving aunts, Mrs. Fannie Townsend of SC , Mrs. Anniemae Gaston and Helen Hayes Both of Charlotte, NC; sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Clark, L.C. Langston, and Juanita Blackwell all of Georgia, and Lois Dudois of IL; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Homegoing services will be held at 12Noon Monday, April 27, 2009 from the Carver Road Christian Church, 3200 Carver School Rd. Winston-Salem, NC with Reverend Keith McDaniels officiating and Pastor Clyde L. Lindsay eulogist. Interment will follow in Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury, NC. The family visitation will be held from 11am until 12Noon on Monday at the Church.
